What is HYP-Tracker?
HYP-Tracker is a unique portfolio tracking tool. Unlike other portfolio trackers it keeps a record of all the transactions for the portfolio rather than just recording the current state of the portfolio. This enables the user to monitor how well their strategy is working and not just how profitable their current shareholding is. It is equally well suited to those who invest to hold for the long term as, unlike other portoflio tools HYP-tracker will automatically account for dividends received. But it is equally good for shorter term traders who can see if their strategy is profitable longer term rather than just displaying the current shareholding bought in the last few days.
Recording the portfolio
HYP-tracker requires the user to just enter the transactions for the portfolio - shares bought and sold. Other portfolio tools require the user to keep track of the current shareholding as shares are added, some are sold etc which actually requires more work to provide less information.
If you also wish to keep track of cash held in the portfolio or moved in and out of the portfolio then there is a small extra effort required to record these cash transactions.
How does it work ?
As with any portfolio tracking tool, share price information is combined with the share purchases/sale and with the current share holding as required.
Dividend information is obtained from another source and again combined with the history of share purchases and sales to calculate income received on the shares held. When other portoflio tools ignore this information they lose a vital factor in calculating profit on an investment.
By tracking the portfolio transations over time and accounting for dividends HYP-tracker can give a complete picture of how your shareholding have performed rather than just a snapshot of the current value of the shares held.
Reports -
The trouble with most portfolio tools is that they only give you a snapshot of the capital value. HYP-Tracker allows the portfolio to be viewed in a number of different ways taking account of the income as well as the capital. For example you can view the capital value, total value, value of the share holdings, dividend income or unitised value of the portfolio in both tabular and graphical form.
Yield summaries will show dividend yield/income of the whole portfolio, yield/income by share holding and income by calender month for those relying on income from their shares.
Other more conventional summaries are also available.
